It does make a difference when you take your ADHD medication. Sustained release stimulants are better taken with food to slow down the rate of absorption. The opposite is said for tablets, which should be taken on an empty stomach so that you don’t lose effectiveness (digested with the food).

The morning is usually the best time to take ADHD medication, but may not last the entire day.  Much depends on whether or not you are taking an immediate release (IM) or sustained release (SR) version.  Immediate release typically need re dosing in the early afternoon. However, even SR may not last an entire day. If your work schedule takes you into the late afternoon/early evening, it would be advantageous to consider a short acting stimulant to get you through.

People react differently to medication. Therefore, always check with your providerto determine the correct dosing of your medication before making any adjustments.
